The creamy combination of pumpkin pie spice and hot chocolate is fall perfection. Made with actual pumpkin, this hot pumpkin pie drink is sure to become a favorite!
How I created this Pumpkin Drink Recipe
I love pumpkin and I love hot chocolate. So when my mom came home from an activity and said they had a creamy warm pumpkin drink I HAD to try it!
It’s so so SOOOO good, creamy and warm and just full of deliciousness. It literally tastes like pumpkin pie in liquid form!
AND it’s nice to have a change from my daily hot Chocolate (oh who am I kidding, I’ll have a mug of this AND a mug of hot chocolate – breakfast and lunch)
It’s good warm by itself, but I like to add a small dollop of fresh whipped cream on top, it’s simply prettier I think. It is great to just make yourself on a cold fall day, or a really fun addition to any holiday party!
I can’t wait to serve it to my kids tonight during our family Halloween fun! And will be so much fun to make after the kids and dads come in after playing football Thanksgiving weekend!
So what do you think? weird or amazing. I was a bit skeptical at first but after a few changes to the original I’m in love. It is SERIOUSLY amazing and my kids love it too!

What is Canned Pumpkin made of?
Canned “Pumpkin” is actually squash! The large orange pumpkins e carve during the season aren’t used for making puree, it’s the smaller, sweeter, sugar pumpkin that you’d use.
These sugar pumpkins are smaller and more watery so it’s easier to produce canned pumpkin from squash and the FDA allows the can’s to say 100% pumpkin because squash and pumpkins are so closely related.
Pumpkin puree is usually made from a winter squash like butternut, Hubbard, Boston Marrow or Golden Delicious. Often a mix of a few kinds of squash mixed together.
Libby’s, which produces 85% of the canned pumpkin in the world, has developed it’s own squash – the Dickinsons, which closely resembles a butternut squash.
I like to make my own pumpkin puree from sugar pumpkins. I will say you have to strain it the puree a it’s super liquidy – also it’s more yellow than orange so the final color of this drink will be different.
