You all know I love sprinkles and I LOVE Mickey Mouse! So this smash cake was super fun for me to do!
Getting the sprinkles stronger on the bottom and getting less going up is easy, it was a little trickier going the other direction. I started by covering the top, easy.
Then working on the corner, getting it covered and still nice and sharp. Then slowly working my way down (I have a spinning cake stand that tilts that made this MUCH easier.
For the Mickey Mouse I bought this “cookie cutter” a few months back, it arrived WAY smaller than I expected, and not at ALL sharp on one side, I’ve been letting my kids play with it, but it was PERFECT for this topper!
AND I gave in, instead of using my from scratch white cakes (that end up very dense and hard to “smash” I used a BOX mix for this. Oh the HORROR! But it smashed really well my sister said! and since it doesn’t really get eaten I guess I’ll have to go with it.
If you want to learn how I frost all these buttercream cakes I’m now teaching two online classes with more on the way! Anything you really want to learn?

Around how long did the cake to make?
Ashlee
Ummmm man this was years ago, baking time of course – depends on your recipe – but frosting and sprinkles? maybe 30 mins? I made the mickey mouse the day before so it had time to dry.

Can you tell me how you made that cookie? Like is it a cake type cookie or is it dipped in chocolate?
Ashlee Marie
it’s not a cookie, it’s just black fondant.
