Yesterday Lego Boy turned 8! EIGHT! I can’t even believe it, I have 3 kids over eight, insanity I tell you. Anyway we threw his party the last day of school to try to *up” attendance. Because we attend a charter school so many of the kids live far away that we don’t often get very many kids at the parties. So throwing them at a park near the school seems to help.
Instead of another Lego themed party this year he picked “Angry Birds”, no real shock. So I came up with foods representing the 5 first, or main, birds (there are like 9 now) and the pigs and went from there. Today I’m sharing the first one, Red’s (did you know the birds all have names?) Oreo Pops!
These are really simple! Start with double stuffed oreos (easier to get the stick to stay in with the extra filling) and shove a lollipop stick inside (whatever length you want). If they break when you push the stick in just toss them and move onto another cookie. Add the hair (licorice laces) and then dip them into red candy coating, shake it off a bit and move fairly quickly…
I have all the rest of the parts ready to go at this point for easy access, candy eyes, more licorice laces pre cut into various sizes and yellow M&M’s cut in half with kitchen scissors!
So working while the Candy coating is still wet add the eye’s, eyebrows and beak… then add the last bit, the tail! I work in an assembly line, first putting in the hair and sticks on all the oreos, then dipping, shake, eyes/eyebrows/beaks and tails on each one. Some turned out better than others, but for the most part they all look pretty similar!
Lego Boy loved these, I have done cake pop’s in the past, but these were my first oreo pops, I did have some trouble with the sticks coming out of some. I ended up taking some apart, dipping the stick in the candy coating, placing them in the center and closing them again, letting them cool before dipping.

thanks! When we got home after the party I found like 3 melted oreos/red candy coating all over the babies car seat… I guess he “stole” some while driving to the party and then left them in his seat to melt!

Seriously! SO Cute! Those “angry eyes” are perfect!
You are so creative! I’ve dipped oreos in the past and they are a little tricky. I love the double stuffs much better! Can’t wait to see the rest of the gang!
