Batman vs Superman design inside Cake – video tutorial

I fully admit it – I’m a comic book fan.  And I for one LOVE all the fun movies based on these comic books, Marvel and DC alike! BUT I’ve never been a huge batman fan, too dark I guess.  BUT this time around it’s a SUPERMAN MOVIE! YAY! and while I’ve always liked the TV shows better (I think because they focus on the human side, Clark Kent and the love story – while the movies tend to make Clark a drip) in the end I’ll always enjoy Superman movies.

SO when a youtube subscriber suggested I make a Batman vs Superman cake I was like YES! BUT then brainstorming had me at a loss, I just couldn’t come up with an awesome idea, then Wednesday morning this BAM just hit me.  AND I love how it turned out! I hope you enjoy it too! The outside is a pretty basic Superman cake, and then WOW a sneaky Batman surprise in the center!

This is my first carve-then-bake-again design inside cake! I was nervous, thinking the chocolate cake would be WAY overdone, and while the edges are a little on the dark side, cutting off the top and bottom of each layer helped with that and it turned out AMAAAAAZING!

I decided to stick with more classic colors but on the muted side, since dark muted colors seem to be the focus of both costumes.  BUT I did use the newer logos, Superman with the new swirl and the new Batman logo/shape.  What do you think of the logos? I kind of miss the bright classic colors, but let’s face it, Bright navy, red and yellow aren’t the most FLATTERING on a real person (vs comic book drawings).

So are you planning on enjoying the movie this weekend! I have some more awesome movie inspired posts for you from some of my favorite blogging friends! check it out!

Ahh this cake is SO cool! I love that it combines both Batman and Superman into one cake. This is definitely how I want to celebrate the premiere, maybe topped with that Superman Ice Cream, too. YUM!

This cake is absolutely AMAZING!! I’m currently wishing I weren’t the only DC fan in the house, lol. Is there any chance you might have an idea for a teenage mutant ninja turtles cake??

    Thanks!!

Hi there, someone has requested this beauty and I don’t know what to charge for an 8″ cake with 6″ Batman inside. Ideas?

it depends on your area, what are cakes going for in your area – and your level of experience. are you using fondant? (and why would you do a 6 inch batman inside instead of the 8 inch I did?) and what is your minimum price – I have a minimum price no matter what the size of the cake to make it worth my time

Just a clarifying question, did you use a 6″ chocolate cake or was it also an 8″ cake?

Thanks and absolutely loved this tutorial and can’t wait to try it!

both 8 inch cakes – you carve the 8 inch cake down so it fits inside the 8 inch pan, but a 6 inch would be WAY to small
