I was sent a free copy of Amazing Hairstyles book to review, all opinions are my own
I LOVE finding talented people to work with on various projects. When I decided I wanted a station for hair at our Princess Spa Party last month I reached out to a few bloggers I know that do hair. At the same time Becky (from Babes in Hairland) put out the word that her first BOOK was coming out and she was looking for a few bloggers to review it! It was a match made in heaven!
I grew up in a family of all girls, AND we all had hair down PAST our waist (like move it to go to the bathroom long – can you believe it??? I had long hair for a huge portion of my life!). My mom was GREAT about doing our hair in fun ways all the time. We had a “hair care kit” we would travel with and carry to wherever she was in the house to get our hair done. BOTH of my sisters have “hair care kits” for their own girls… but my girls and I have never gotten into the habit of doing their hair!
Well that is about to change! I loved this book. It reminded me of so many of the classic ways I learned how to do hair growing up, and THEN building on the basics and creating eye catching, lovely, hair style! The chapters start with tips and essential supplies, then moving onto the basic techniques and after that easy and effortless styles. And the last two chapters move onto everyday and any occasions styles then elegant updos and special occasion styles!
For Princess we started with something simple, she’s just getting her hair grown out (after spending her early years constantly cutting her own hair). She still doesn’t love combing her hair every day, but she loves wearing clips. So we tried both the Waterfall Twist and the Lace Braid techniques to do a Ladder Braid. It held her hair away from her face but in a fun pretty way! She loved it!
For our Halloween Costumes this year (I’ll share those later) The Reader needed to be a bit fancier, so we decided to try out an updo! She has pretty long hair at this pint so we had a lot to work with. The very last hairdo in the book was this LOVELY 4-strand braid with braided twists, bangs puled back, etc… We actually did this style a FEW times, since we had multiple Halloween celebrations, each time it came together easily and stayed in all evening! And holy cow does my sweet baby (my oldest, but still my baby) look so grown up!

Thank you so much for reviewing our book & we’re so glad you’ve had fun trying out some of the hairstyles. And thanks again for having us come help at the princess party! Not only are you talented in the cake, diy and so many other areas, you’ve got no issues w/doing hair either! If only my cake skills could come close to yours! 😉 Thanks again!

Like I said, I grew up with all sisters with crazy long hair! It’s been fun having my daughters let me do their hair! and come by for a cake class anytime!
