Soooo Pokemon Go – love it or hate it? My kids adore it, I downloaded it and played it to research this cake – fun enough – but for a person who doesn’t leave the house very often it’s kinda hard to play (the joys of working from home) BUT it has gotten us out of the house and to the park more often this summer so I’ll go with love it!
My kids have watched the old TV show so I knew the basic characters and overall game, and who doesn’t love a well done app! love the real world aspect and the getting outside and moving aspect too. The kids love the idea of capturing their own pokemon as well, I can see why it’s such a hit! ANYWAY pretty sure there will be a ton more Pokemon Birthday parties this year SO I just HAD to make a cake!
PLUS I got to be a surprise guest on with the Working with Lemons kids talk show “lemonreds” and they seriously LOVED the cake I brought them as a surprise! so TOTALLY worth it (my own kids loved it too of course!). I will say that extra large ball (an 8 inch ball, vs the traditional 6 inch) makes the cake SUPER heavy, I mean CRAZY heavy, probably my heaviest cake that wasn’t a wedding cake!
Tools I used
- 8 inch Ball pan
- 6 inch round pans
- Dense cake recipes
- Ganache recipe (both white chocolate and chocolate chocolate)
- red candy oil (for the white chocolate ganache)
- 4 inch cake circle
- 18 gauge covered wire
- parchment paper
- fondant – I use satin ice
- extruder
I wanted to represent every team – but since my kids and the LemonReds kids are Team mystic of course it got the front spot. I think I like the way Team Valor (red) turned out the best – I didn’t think it would turn out very flame like, but I left the cut edges rough and I’m super happy with it! What team are you?
So I had a blast making this cake and sharing it with the Working with lemon kids! Their faces and outbursts when the cake was revealed are every cake decorators dream! Seriously! AND just image what YOUR kids will say when you make it for them! Have a suggestion for another game cake for me? let me know!
