“Trussssst in meeeeee, Jusssst in meeeeeee….” I mean seriously! Does it get any more iconic? When I was little we had a pet python and his name was Kaa (because what ELSE would you name a pet Snake?). SO last week Baby Boy and I got to go see an AMAZING preview of Disney’s “The Jungle Book” in 3D. Now I FULLY admit to being nervous and skeptical about how this would play out…
You GUYS! it was AMAZING! It’s incredible how far 3D and CGI has come just in the last 10 years. The boy who plays Mowgli ROCKS IT! I mean I’d have a hard time playing to basically nothing and he’s just a KID! So while I was watching the movie my main thought was… what can I make for this post…. Carved Snake Cake? been done, Giant Orangutan cake? Cool, but could easily go UGLY… And the image that kept coming back to me is this one scene – where Kaa is “showing” Mowgli where he came from and this vision of a red lotus made from fiery flames was just BEAUTIFUL!
Now mine don’t look quite as flame like as I’d envisioned when I first decided to make “Man’s Red Flower” but I love how it turned out… AND this sucker is HUGE, and so delicate! I have a few “oops” and “oh crap” moments, enjoy watching!
I was just introduced to isomalt in the last 6 months and I am in LOVE! it is seriously SO much fun to work with! I love that it remelts SO easily and it makes so much more possible (like remelting broken petals). It’s sugar free (it’s a sugar substitute used in sugar free candies) AND by adding flavors and colors it tastes just great and looks AMAZING!
Make sure you use CANDY flavoring and CANDY coloring (both oil based) you can use these same flavorings and colorings with chocolate too! And don’t forget your candy thermometer
So how about you? favorite part of the original (the vultures singing anyone?)? excited to see the new one? Any voice talent your excited to hear? I got a kick out of them all! Baloo… King Louie… GAH so much fun! I can’t wait to take the rest of the kids this weekend!

Oh my goodness! Love the lotus flower! I hope I have a chance to do it at some point. You mentioned doing something with wafer paper flowers coming up sometime. I am doing a wedding cake in June and they would like poppies on the cake. I thought about doing them with the wafer paper. But have you ever done poppies and would you recommend the wafer paper or gum paste?

awwww thank you so much! it’s fun working with isomalt, so many possibilities! I haven’t played with wafer paper much or made poppies, so I’ll have to try both first
